As the artist formerly known as Sexi Seaweed, it should come as no surprise that I have attracted seaweed in all forms into my life. This product is no different.
Years ago I was attacked by some off-leash dogs while at a public beach and had to undergo a full course of rabies vaccines. I am fairly certain that is what caused my sudden full-body breakout in Eczema. I had never experienced anything like it before that, but suddenly in addition to my physical wounds and emotional trauma, my skin was on fire!
My skin could not tolerate anything I tried to calm it. That's when I discovered the healing powers of seaweed and/or started to take it seriously. I had access to seaweed at the time, so I started to experiment and eventually settled on this formula: an Aloe Vera and bladderwrack base infused with other plant extracts to soothe extremely sensitive and traumatized skin. I've been using it on my face ever since = >7 years, and as such, I've had a chance to notice both the long and short-term benefits of seaweed skincare. It's pretty wild how well seaweed works with our skin, almost like it was meant to be, so let's dive in.
As a humectant, seaweed balances moisture levels in the cells naturally. The salt content attracts moisture from the environment deeper into the skin, and this is something you can notice right away. When I give samples of the Seaweed Serum at a market, the number 1 reaction I get is near disbelief at how the serum soaks right with no oily residue and leaves the skin feeling incredibly soft and hydrated. And no, it does not smell like fish ;)
Seaweed contains Iodine, which is critical for women's health as it is necessary for Thyroid function. The Thyroid in charge of regulating hormones and our bodies don't produce Iodine so we do need to supplement it from external sources.
Seaweed encourages collagen production, which helps keep the skin firm and toned. It supports cell detoxification and regeneration. Polysaccharides in seaweed create a protective layer on the skin to trap moisture in, plumping it and even reducing the appearance of fine lines.
The benefits of seaweed are nothing new, but in my opinion, more important than ever because seaweeds are also some of the most sustainable crops in the world.
